Created in collaboration with Shaadi Ityaadi and the incredible Doodlebar, this card speaks in doodle-tongue about the rituals that make a Bengali wedding unmistakable: Shubo Drishti (the sacred first sight), Mala Bodol (garland exchange), Sindoor Daan (the vermillion ritual), Kanya Sampradan, Joggo, and Bou-Bhaat. Every ceremony, illustrated. Every detail, honoured.
And yes — the butterfly. Present in almost every aspect of a Hindu Bengali wedding because it symbolises marriage. The reason traces back to Brahma, also known as the avatar of Prajapati, the Lord of Progeny. In Bengali, the butterfly is called "Prajapati." So the origami butterfly holding this card together isn't decorative. It's deeply intentional.
The card is printed on seed paper made from upcycled cotton textile waste in our solar-powered workshop in Agra. Wood-free. 100% biodegradable. After the bou-bhaat is done and the mishti doi has been devoured, your guests plant the card, add water, and grow marigolds or wildflowers from what was once your invitation.
